We all wish we’d had an opportunity like this when we were at school: working with top UK designers to sort out design problems in our schools. And the best thing is, we'd be acting as the client.
The Sorrell Foundation is an inspirational organisation that encourages creativity in young people and aims to improve the quality of life through design. The foundation runs a number of programmes including Joinedupdesignforschools, Young Design Programme and also runs its own Young Design Centre at Somerset House in central London. The aim of all these programmes is to put the pupils in the driving seat so that they, and not the teachers, become the actual clients in the design process. As well as setting the briefs they also learn invaluable life skills such as negotiating, problem-solving and teamworking.

We’ve worked with The Sorrell Foundation since it launched in 2000. Since then we have been responsible for a wide range of projects from programme identities to key reports, magazines, publications, exhibitions as well as harmonising their brand architecture. The Young Design Centre at Somerset House opened in 2007 and was the greatest challenge to date. Working with leading exhibition designers, we transformed a previously under-used part of the building into a stunning learning experience where coach-loads of school children could learn about the design process and begin to put it into practice.
